NEWPOLI - MEDITERRANEAN PULSE RITMI DELLA TERRA

As you hear the tamburello pounding out the heartbeat of Newpoli’s music, the two female singers start up a wild, frenetic dance and you'll have a very hard time sitting still! Welcome to Newpoli Live!

NEWPOLI carries on a tradition that is so old it’s hard to date, performing music from the South of Italy laced with influences from all of the surrounding Mediterranean cultures. Originals are mixed  with exciting arrangements of traditional music sourced from field recordings by Allan Lomax and Ernesto De Martino. The tempo is high, and the drama and passion can be heard in every note!

The group was formed around 2003 by a group of Italian immigrants in Boston, USA. Now, over 10 years later they have toured all across the states and at home in Italy. They recorded four CD’s, won the Independent Music Awards for Best World CD 2016, got nominated three times for Best World Music group in Boston and twice (also in 2016) for Traditional Music in Italy. They were also finalists in USA Songwriting Competition in 2016 for their song Sciure d’arance from their latest CD, Nun te vutà.

DISCOGRAPHY

MEDITERRANEO

This album truly comes from the heart and speaks about the world today as we see it. It speaks about the Mediterranean Sea as a unifying element culturally and musically, as well as from a humanitarian perspective--a bridge that facilitates exchange between countries rather than a wall that divides us.

LIVE PERFORMANCES

PRESS

“The main feelings generated by this album are passion and excitement!” fRoots, UK

“Nun te Vutà (Don’t look back) is the fourth recording by a brilliant outfit of north-eastern US residents, four of them Italians, who grab southern Italian traditional music by the neck and recast it in a dramatic style.” Songlines, UK

“The group’s new CD finds it recording original songs for the first time and making forays into the music of the Basilicata region of Italy on a collection that is thematically informed by the hope and sadness of the emigrant — a spirit reflected in its title, “Nun te Vutà” (“don’t look back”) (Top Picks) Boston Globe, US

"Newpoli offers solid musicianship and a serious and respectful approach to southern Italian folk traditions." (Their) biggest asset is the frontline vocal duo of Marsico and Rossi, visual and musical cynosures with their contrasting looks and twining vocal lines”  PopMatters, US

“excellent album…singers Angela Rossi and Carmen Marsico are outstanding”

Folker, Germany

“…an hour of uninterrupted joy.”  World Music Review, Canada

“With a high octane party sound surrounding them, this crew is ready for an assault on the future. Hot stuff that marries chops and vision in a killer way.”

Midwest Record, US
